What is Sugaring?
Sugaring is the most natural, effective and gentle form of hair removal that dates way back to ancient Egypt. Sugaring paste is made from three simple ingredients:
Sugar
Water
Lemon
Sugaring vs Waxing
The superior method of hair removal, that is both cleaner and greener!
Sugaring | Waxing |
All NATURAL Ingredients | Chemical ingredients, including resins and preservatives |
Heated to a luke warm temperature | Heated to high temperatures that can result in burns |
Removes hair in the natural direction of growth, reducing ingrowns and breakage | Removes hair against the growth, which distorts the follicle, resulting to ingrown hairs |
Does not adhere to live skin cells | Can lift skin, damages fine tissue cells |
Safe for sensitive skin conditions | Not 100% safe for all skin types |
Leaves skin feeling clean, soft and comfortable | Skin is left feeling raw and irritated |
Washes off with water, leaves no residue behind | Difficult to clean up requiring solvents |
Bacteria cannot survive in sugar paste | Wax warmers and pots provide a breeding ground for bacteria |
Minimal Discomfort | Painful and traumatic to the skin |
Before your appointment
- Your first time sugaring will be the most painful, and if you are worried about
discomfort, you can take a pain reliever 30-45 minutes before your appointment. - Do not sunbathe or use a tanning bed for 48 hours prior to your treatment.
- For best results, exfoliate and moisturize your skin regularly, but avoid exfoliating the day before, the day of, and the day after treatment.Β
- Sugar adheres best to clean, dry skin so please shower to remove any excess oil from the skin. Avoid using any powders, cream or lotions to the area being sugared the day of your treatment.Β We do have complimentary personal wipes for you to use prior to your service.
- Do not apply deodorant if getting your underarms sugared.
Hair must be at least 1/4β² long or about the length of a grain of rice.
For growth:
Shaving β a minimum 10-14 days of regrowth before getting sugared.
Wax β 4 weeks of regrowth before getting sugared.
Sugar β 4-6 weeks of regrowth.
Aftercare instructions
- Avoid touching the freshly sugared area.
- Do not exercise immediately following treatment.
- Avoid exposing your skin to the sun, tanning beds or infrared lamps for 24-48 hrs after your treatment.
- Do not have hot baths or showers for 24 hrs following your treatment.
- To avoid irritation to freshly sugared skin, refrain from using perfume soaps, deodorant or products with chemical irritants for 24 hrs.
- Do not exfoliate the area for 24-48 hrs following a sugaring treatment.
- For best results, resume exfoliating 2-3 times a week to remove unwanted skin build-up that may cause ingrown hairs.
*The first 3 appointments are the most important when sugaring. To effectively soften and reduce hair growth, the hair must be removed during the anagen stage of hair growth, (the first
stage of hair growth). This is typically 3-6 weeks after hair has been removed from its root.
That is why it is crucial for long lasting results that these 3 appointments be scheduled 3-6 weeks apart. Continually removing hair at the anagen stage damages the follicle, (in a good way), which eventually collapses the follicle and the hair wonβt grow back.
